To redesign the interface for the world's largest fitness education resource for personal trainers and 'bring it into the 21st century'.
Embarking on the redesign of a site of this magnitude started with extensive consideration of the core purpose of the site: content. Being a paid membership based site means the content needed to be easy to find, well presented and relevant to the user.
A news style home page was developed structured into the 3 core categories of the site - this provided an immediate and visual way of displaying where different content and tools sat within the site structure. Drawing a variety of content to the home page ensures that members quickly find content that interests them and visitors see how current the site content is.
The home page was developed to be customisable to ensure that users could control the amount and type of content they see and also allows short descriptions to be turned on and off depending on their level of familiarity. Functionality introduced during the redesign included: global search from all pages, tool tips, customisable home page, rating of content, blogs, forum and the use of silverlight technology (delivery of video content, program design tool and courseware platform).
