overview.
A lovely print project where we were given the opportunity to challenge the traditional retail catalogue. Some creative thinking added not only design flair (as you would expect), but also increased longevity in the market and really made it work for the consumer.
brief.
Design and produce a high-end catalogue for No Chintz stores, which specialise in superior quality textiles and fabrics. No Chintz needed to display an extensive range of fabrics in a practical and easy to reference manner whilst inspiring potential and current clients with a showcase of in-situ applications.
solution.
What started as a straightforward catalogue design project quickly became a chance to reconsider a traditional medium.
Each spread was laid out to focus on a room type, with a hero image supported by detailed shots and a key quote from a staff member to demonstrate their in-depth knowledge.
We introduced a number of ideas that increased the aesthetic appeal, practicality and longevity of the piece:
- Demi pages. The short cut page style was introduced to sit in the middle of each image spread to display related fabric swatches. This greatly increased the ease of use for customers when they saw something.
- Notes section. We also introduced a notes section within the demi page for customers to write down measurements, or any inspiration that came to mind. This encourages clients to actively interact with the catalogue, viewing it as a practical tool rather than just sales collateral.
- Back pocket with poster. To increase longevity of the catalogue we introduced a pocket on the inside back cover which houses an A2 poster, displaying 170 swatches of fabrics available from the stores with quick reference pricing. Should prices change, the swatch insert can simply be re-printed. This becomes a very cost effective solution to reprinting the whole catalogue.
The catalogue design is colourful and dynamic ensuring an experience consistent with stepping into one of the gorgeous No Chintz stores. Close collaboration with the client and the print and photography teams was key to ensuring that the colour accuracy and detail of the swatches was of an extremely high level.
All in all we had a great time producing a lovely print piece on scrumptious stocks for a client that really appreciated the value we added along the way. Smiles all round!
