Approached by the Access Inc charity we were asked to produce a cookbook in honour of a chef who was suffering from Motor Neurone disease. The book needed to be a modern style cookbook that showcased Michael Jacks' recipes and inspiring life story.
Client liaison was key here to get an understanding of Michael Jacks and how he would like his life story and work represented. A strong relationship was forged through shared experiences as both teams worked many personal hours to bring this ‘labour of love’ to life. A twist was given to the modern style cookbook by arranging the recipes according to stages of Michael’s life. Colour was utilised to create clearly defined sections and complex image retouching allowed old family photos to feature within the book.
A hand written font replicating a blue biro was developed to include ‘Michael’s notes’ alongside recipes. Details included mementos such as the corresponding songs Michael would cook to, creating a very personal experience when using the book.
